Barbara Grant, Founder and Director of Retrofit Pilates is a movement educator, mindfulness meditation teacher, health and wellness writer and blogger, and television host. She has been a featured presenter at international Pilates and Yoga conferences in Canada and the US., led her Pilates in Paradise retreats in Mexico and Costa Rica and was featured weekly on Rogers television as the host of Shape Up with Barbara Grant.
Barbara is a Balanced Body Master Instructor for Pilates, Anatomy in 3D, MOTR and Bodhi. She provides comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training and Continuing Education at Retrofit and throughout Canada, as well as conducting professional development workshops for Pilates professionals in association with Active Pilates Brazil. She is a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher (NCPT) having received her original certification from Vivian Nichols of Pilates Downtown in 1997 and additional Pilates Teaching Certification from the Physical Mind Institute and Balanced Body. She holds a diploma from Grant MacEwan College in Dance Teacher Training and has trained in Pilates, therapeutic movement, Ashtanga yoga, and dance with master teachers from around the world. A former professional dancer, Barbara performed, choreographed, taught and produced dance across Canada, spending several years as a guest artist of the Danny Grossman Dance Company.
Since establishing Retrofit Pilates in 1999, she has orchestrated its development as one of Toronto’s premiere centers for Pilates and mind-body wellness. With her team of over 12 diversely trained Pilates specialists, she works with a wide range of clients seeking freedom of movement including those in treatment for chronic conditions such as back pain, arthritis, and osteoporosis, dancers, athletes, golfers, fitness enthusiasts, expectant mothers, and more.
