I have been practicing Pilates as an athletic training tool for hockey for several years, but it wasn’t until I started learning more about the body that it became more ingrained in my everyday life. I realized how integral this type of movement and training is to quality of life across all manner of activities. When I studied theatre at the University of Windsor, I was surprised and delighted to discover how intertwined Pilates is in the world of the arts as well. Body awareness, injury prevention, energy flow, and joy in movement are the benefits of a movement style conceptualized with creativity in mind.
Having Pilates as a foundation has made me a better, healthier hockey player, performer and mover in general. I took the Retrofit Pilates Teacher Training course in order to deepen my own understanding of Pilates and the kind of practice I want to encourage in others. I am interested in training the body for practical movement and longevity in everyday life as well as in more physically demanding situations. I believe a Pilates class should leave you feeling longer, stronger, and excited to come back for more.
